How to Stop Attracting the Wrong Set of Guys
What man is attracted to a woman who thinks that she’s not worth anything? You need to have the confidence and self-esteem to project dateability.
Everyone has positive qualities, even if they don’t realize it. Okay, so you don’t have a job or you don’t have a degree or you had a bad relationship—that doesn't mean that you wouldn't be an understanding, compassionate, interesting and fun girlfriend. Everyone deserves a chance to give their best qualities to a partner, no matter their circumstances. You need to remember that you have a lot to offer and soon enough a handsome man will too!
Step 2: Present a Positive Attitude
Now that you’ve figured out that you deserve a happy relationship, you need to adjust your attitude so you can attract one. If you keep expecting to attract the wrong kind of guy, you’re projecting low expectations and a pessimistic attitude about love. So who do you think will be attracted to that? A pessimistic guy who isn't looking to meet ambitious expectations and who doesn't want a lot of boyfriend responsibilities. If you don’t present a positive attitude, you’re not going to catch the eye of a positive guy.
There’s a quick tip to help keep your attitude positive, especially useful for those of you who hate dating. Approach every situation as though you’re going to to have a good time. Arrive to every date confident that the man on the other side of the table is going to be the love of your life. Because one of these times, he will be!
Step 3: Figure Yourself Out
If you’ve mastered the first two steps and you still can’t seem to land a quality man, there might be a problem with your process. Do you know who you’re looking for? I’m not looking for a list like “Tall, dark and handsome.” Do you know what kind of relationship you want? If you haven’t decided what you’re looking for, how can you expect to find someone who satisfies you?
You don’t have to settle for being a jerk-magnet. Use these three steps to change yourself instead of trying to change a dirtbag into a quality boyfriend.

Gentlemen, once you’ve graduated from college and are well into your 20s, I encourage you to hit the singles scene and try to find a woman your age who can cook, manage her personal finances and has both the know-how and motivation to properly maintain a household. You’ll have better luck (and probably more fun) searching for nickels on a busy interstate. Now, before any female readers shout “misogynist,” think for a moment — the standard I'm imposing is no more sexist than the one being mourned by Hymowitz. Women, for all of their successes and achievements in the last 40 years, still want a man who’s ambitious, driven and capable of taking charge of his life and his relationships, because that’s what women have looked for in a man since the dawn of time. Well, guess what? What we look for in a woman hasn’t changed a whole lot either. We want someone who can support us emotionally, be a mother to our children and can keep the cave tidy while we’re out hunting woolly mammoths. Spending my free time drinking and playing Wii isn’t going to make me president any sooner than being chained to a desk 80 hours a week is going to allow you the necessary time to help our kids learn how to read.
Six Years, No Ring! Now What?
I have been with my boyfriend six years, and we’ve lived together for four of them. I have never pressured him about marriage, and we have talked about it happening, but I'm starting to give up hope. While I feel content with our relationship, I'm becoming insecure about why he hasn't asked me yet. I know it's just a piece of paper, but I'd like to have the commitment before we have kids. On another note, he is the first man I've been with that has a very low sex drive—we go for weeks without having sex. As a professional, I’m asking, is this a red flag?

There are several "red flags" in this relationship. His low sex drive may or may not be a red flag. Have him have a physical exam to see if there is a medical basis for his this. The largest red flag I see is the fact that you are willing to settle within this relationship. Why are you doing this? If you want to be married and have children, why are you still with this guy if he doesn’t want the same? Six years is a long time to date someone without a commitment.
You definitely know if you want to or are willing to marry someone after being with them for that long. I hate to say it, but homeboy is playing games. He also knows you are not going to " pressure" him about marriage. You should not have to pressure him. If the two of you were already on the same page with your goals, values, and the future, you would already be married. The fact that he has not asked you to marry him is truly a big red flag.
Many women settle and try to convince themselves that marriage is only "a piece of paper.” If it’s only a piece of paper, why are there so many marriages each year? That piece of paper represents much more than an "I do.” It is a legal commitment that indicates you both are willing to back up your words with an emotional commitment. Without that, you are just playing house while living together. As the old saying goes: Why should he buy the cow when he is getting the milk for free? As long as you are willing to live in denial, you will convince yourself of anything. It is time to have an honest conversation with your boyfriend. Be honest about your needs and desires. If he can't meet them, move on with your life. You deserve to have a man that honors you as his wife. You will never be his wife or anyone else's if you continue to settle for the title of only girlfriend and play house. – Dr. Sherry
